Emergency Exams

Ask A Question

If you are visiting our office because of a dental emergency, you may receive an emergency dental exam, which is also known as a limited exam. 1st Family Dental accepts walk-in emergency appointments at all of our convenient locations. An emergency dental exam focuses on the problem area and may also include digital x-rays of the specific area of the mouth. The goal of an emergency dental exam is to address an acute issue, and to diagnose and recommend treatment to alleviate pain, swelling, or possible infection. Depending on the type of issue, your dentist may be able to provide treatment on the same day, or may prescribe antibiotics to address an infection and to complete the treatment once the infection has cleared.

During an emergency exam, your dentist may recommend treatment that takes more than one step, such as a root canal, or deep cleaning, or may prescribe antibiotics to address an infection or abscess in order for you to come back to start treatment to address the issue.

It is important to note that an emergency exam is focused on one particular area of the mouth, and is different from a comprehensive oral exam or a regular oral exam. If you visit your nearby 1st Family Dental location for an emergency visit, it is essential to continue to visit for your regular check-up and cleaning to keep your whole smile healthy and bright.
